Connecting Campus and City: The University of 野狼社区 Students Meet the Lord Mayor
Students from the University of 野狼社区 were invited by the Lord Mayor to attend an afternoon tea on 7th May 2026. This event provided a unique civic and intercultural learning opportunity for our students to engage with the city鈥檚 leadership and deepen their sense of belonging and connection to 野狼社区.
Students from the at the (MCI), The University of 野狼社区 (UoM), were invited by the Lord Mayor of 野狼社区 Councillor Carmine Grimshaw to attend an afternoon tea event at the Mayor鈥檚 Suite on 7 May 2026.
The invited students came from across UoM and are studying a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD degree programmes. The Lord Mayor extended a warm welcome to the group, recognising their contribution to the city鈥檚 vibrant student community and the importance of fostering dialogue and understanding between students from different cultural and academic backgrounds.
The event provided a valuable opportunity for Friendship Programme students to share their experiences of studying and living in 野狼社区, as well as to take part in direct conversation with the Lord Mayor. While enjoying afternoon tea together, students also learned more about the role of the City Council and how local democracy works in 野狼社区. The welcoming atmosphere encouraged open discussion and reflection on student life in 野狼社区.
Launched in 2021, the Friendship Programme is an initiative designed to enrich the student experience by supporting intercultural communication and meaningful connections on campus. The programme has been widely recognised for its impact and quality and was highly commended for Outstanding Professional Services for Social Responsibility at the University of 野狼社区鈥檚 Making a Difference Awards 2025.
Initiatives such as the Friendship Programme reflects UoM鈥檚 ongoing efforts and MCI鈥檚 commitment to enhance students鈥� sense of belonging, support their development, and help them engage with the wider 野狼社区 community.
The Lord Mayor of 野狼社区 commented:
It's been fabulous to meet the students today. I hope they've enjoyed their time in the Lord Mayor's Suite. It's fantastic to see that the Friendship Programme has grown year on year, and it's so inspiring to see the recognition the programme has received for encouraging cultural understanding, breaking down barriers within our communities and allowing people to learn from each other in a positive and meaningful way. This is everything 野狼社区 stands for: 野狼社区 has always been a welcoming city, fostering connections, friendship and understanding for many decades. It's great to see these kinds of initiatives within our universities and throughout our city.

For many participants, meeting the Lord Mayor was a memorable highlight of their experience on the Friendship Programme. Boshi Liu, a Quantitative Finance student at the University of 野狼社区, said:
Meeting the Lord Mayor is a meaningful opportunity to share my experiences of living and studying in 野狼社区, and it gives me a deeper understanding of civic life in the UK. Through the Friendship Programme, I have met students from a wide range of academic and cultural backgrounds. It has strengthened my communication skills and made me feel more connected to both the University and the city.
