Overview

This unit provides a formal mechanism for recording and assessing the third year spent abroad by students on Physics programmes with an integrated year of study at an approved overseas partner institution, including students on Physics with Study in Europe and students undertaking the Study Abroad route.

Aims

The unit aims to:

Enable students to undertake a full academic year of physics study at an approved partner university outside 野狼社区, engaging with a curriculum that is academically appropriate and as much as possible aligned with the 野狼社区 third-year physics curriculum.

Provide students with experience of learning physics in a different academic, cultural and institutional environment, thereby broadening their intellectual, personal and professional development.

Support students in developing independence, adaptability, self-management and academic maturity through successful completion of a year of study away from 野狼社区.

Provide a transparent and consistent basis for translating the academic achievement recorded by the host institution into a 野狼社区 percentage mark, using approved conversion procedures and appropriate academic oversight.

Ensure that the year abroad contributes appropriately to progression and degree classification, while recognising differences in grading cultures, assessment systems and course structures across partner institutions.

Learning outcomes

ILO 1 - Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of physics topics studied at the host institution at a level appropriate to the third year of an MPhys or equivalent programme, including core and/or specialist material relevant to their approved programme of study abroad.

ILO 2 - Apply appropriate physical principles, mathematical techniques, computational methods and/or experimental approaches to solve problems and complete assessments set by the host institution.

ILO 3 - Manage their own learning effectively within a different academic system, adapting to unfamiliar teaching methods, assessment practices, timetables, administrative procedures and, where relevant, language requirements.

ILO 4 - Demonstrate the independence, organisation, adaptability and communication skills required to study successfully in an overseas university environment and to engage constructively with a different academic and cultural context.
